What a crazy world we live in!
Watching the news, listening to the radio, and surfing the web can cause one to become overwhelmed with the potpourri of political titles and persuasions we have today in America. We have Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives, Liberals, Constitutionalists, Progressives, Capitalists, Socialists, Libertarians, Communists, Marxists, Anarchists, Neo-Cons, and Moderates. Can't forget about the Moderates. What the heck is a Moderate? Really?
And then there are the Right-wingers, the Left-wingers, and the Centrists. Are Centrists the same as the Moderates?
So, what's in a name? I've taken some time, done some research, and I think I've narrowed all of this down to just two camps of people: the Libertarians and the Socialists.
The Libertarians, or individualists, believe they know how to live their lives and just want to be left alone – with no or very little government aid or coercion. If a family-member, a neighbor, or a stranger is in need then the Libertarian is more than happy to provide charity to get the needy back on their feet. The Libertarian views self-interest as a virtue. The Libertarian believes government is a tool that should only be used to protect our rights and contracts. Libertarians believe they know what society needs and that's liberty.
The Socialists, or collectivists, believe we have a moral obligation to help those who have less than we do. The Socialist believes government is a tool that can establish equality between those who have and those who do not. Socialists believe they know what society needs, and that's equality, and Socialists know what steps, and sacrifices, are required to make it happen.
There are no Moderates, or Centrists, because people either want liberty or they don't. If they believe in any form of governmental-aid or subsidy then they aren't Moderates, they are Socialists.
So, among these two camps of people, the Libertarians and the Socialists, we have Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives, Liberals, Constitutionalists, Progressives, Capitalists, Communists, Marxists, Anarchists, Neo-Cons, and the Moderates.
